My Rates

I use Gravy for the Brain's rate card plus Equity's audio guide when calculating my fee.

Voice-over rates can seem very confusing so I have included some explanations below, which will hopefully make it all a bit clearer!

What is a BSF?

This stands for Basic Studio Fee. This is my fee for recording the voice-over, which I charge per hour of recording time.

My BSF is £250 per hour.

What is a usage fee?

Also known as a licensing fee or buyout fee. This is a legal requirement to allow my voice-over to be used according to the terms agreed to in the contract. For example, this is calculated depending on where it is being used, how it is being used and for how long. Most voice-overs will also have a usage fee, unless they are for internal use only/non-broadcast.

Are all voice jobs calculated in the same way?

No, they're not. Just to make things a bit more confusing, here are some exceptions:

TV COMMERCIALS:

The fee includes my BSF plus a usage fee, calculated depending on the number of TVRs (TV ratings)

ADR:

My fee is £325 per session (up to 4 hours). I do not charge a usage fee.

E-LEARNING:

These are calculated per word, as they are often longer, more measured scripts.

I charge £0.30 per word. I do not charge a usage fee.

IVR (INTERACTIVE VOICE RESPONSE):

IVR is calculated per prompt. I charge £10 per prompt. I accept a minimum of 18 prompts.

ANIMATIONS:

These are calculated per episode plus a usage fee. The fee will vary depending on the studio.

VIDEO GAMES:

These can be calculated in two different ways, depending on the studio and whether it is an A, AA or AAA game.

The first option is per hour plus a usage fee.

The second option is per hour, plus the first hour is charged at double the hourly rate, with no usage fee.

(That one sounds a bit more complicated!).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I include basic editing at no extra charge, when recording from my home studio.

(This includes compression, normalisation, removal of clicks, pops and mistakes).

If you require file splitting or debreathing, I charge an additional fee of £30 per hour.

I can provide the finished audio files in any format/bitrate required. I send all audio files via WeTransfer.

I am happy to send them via a different way if you would prefer.
